Great Beginnings Preschool is designed to actively develop school readiness with a multi-dimensional math and reading program, music, art, and other enriching activities in a nurturing Christian atmosphere.
Academics
Preschool/Three Years
Children sharpen their listening skills, follow directions, and practice hand-eye coordination as they learn number concepts. Letters of the alphabet are introduced by an animal alphabet friend. Daily Bible lessons and weekly Chapel service are provided. We also focus on art, music, and other enriching activities. Parent provides snack.
Transitional Kindergarten/Four Years
Children learn phonics-based letters using our multi-sensory program, early writing skills for letter and number formation, and math using hands-on manipulatives. Daily Bible lessons and weekly Chapel service and provided. We also focus on art, circle time, field trips, and Kindergarten readiness. Parent provides snack.

Karen Johnson: Building
named in memory of our director.
Karen has been a pillar of New Life Christian School since it formed in 1998. She wore many “hats” which currently included Preschool Director, Kindergarten Teacher, School Board President and Fundraising Chairman. Her love and dedication to the Lord, her students, NLCS families and our community was apparent in all she did. Great Beginnings Preschool was her “baby” and she did whatever it took to make sure it thrived. Please know that we will continue to make sure her legacy lives on through the Preschool.
In years past, Karen taught various classes including High School Finance, weekly electives such as Home Economics, and the Girls Purity Retreat to mention a few. It was through these classes that Karen taught life skills, life lessons, and built bonds with her students that they will never forget.
In the words of a few of her students, “It was in her home economics class when she taught us how to make flower arrangements that I fell in love with flowers. She had a way of taking things that were ordinary and making them extraordinary.”
Another student said, “She supported me no matter how big or small my successes were. She influenced me in many positive ways. While I didn’t recognize it then, I recognize it now. There’s no way I could think of one memory with her that ever led to a frown. This is a woman that deserves to be remembered and deserves a crown.”
Finally, another said, “Principal Johnson, or PJ as I fondly called her, was the embodiment of what the Bible refers to as the ‘kindness of the Lord that leads us to repentance.’ Karen was patient with students’ pride, gentle with our grievances, delicate with our constant distractions, and it was truly her kindness that led students to repentance. From her warm smile and soothing presence, to her contagious laugh, she made every space better for having her in it. Karen’s residence may have changed but her love and example will forever be with us.”
We are sad that she is not here with us today but the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:8, “We are confident, yes well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”
Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that God has raised Him (Jesus) from the dead, you will be saved.”
With these two scriptures we have confidence that we will see her again.
